How Do Couples Meet?

I recently read a study by Standford University on How Couples Meet. Standford’s findings displayed an intricate and animated chart showing the evolution of how people use to meet and how they are meeting now.

Naturally curious with all things relationships, I asked women and men from our Instagram community how they met their current partner, or if they are single, how they met their former partner. Check out the data:

Based on submissions by 275 women and 209 men.

33% of couples have met online.
28% of couples have met through mutual friends.
20% of couples have met at a bar/ restaurant/ party/ outing.
9% of couples have met at work*.
10% of couples have met through school, family, at the gym, church or on vacation.

Whether if that’s through dating apps like Hinge, Bumble, Tinder or via social platforms like Instagram, it’s clear that online dating is here to stay.

I understand how defeating or shallow online dating can be. But my question to you is, how intentional are you with your dating app(s), or how intentional would you like to be? Are you on there in hopes of finding a healthy and fulfilling relationship? Are you being honest with potential partners about your intentions? The more forward we are about our desires and needs, the faster we can filter out the people who are not in alignment with us.

*Work: some people mentioned that they met their partner while working together. Others explained they met their partner while they were working - i.g. their partner walked into their place of work and hit it off with them.
